Ribbon Bio Launches Cell-Free DNA Platform and In-Lab DNA Production Kit

Vienna-based DNA assembly company Ribbon Bio has announced two major strategic advances aimed at removing long-standing barriers in DNA production and expanding access to high-quality synthetic DNA. The company is launching its MiroSynth Cell-Free DNA platform, manufactured without bacterial cloning steps, and the new MiroMine kit, which enables customers to generate synthetic DNA constructs directly in their own laboratories.

Together, these developments represent an important step toward Ribbon Bio’s mission of democratizing access to complex DNA and transforming DNA synthesis from a centralized, capacity-limited service into a more accessible, flexible and scalable tool for the biopharmaceutical and synthetic biology sectors.

Built Without Bacteria

Traditional DNA manufacturing is often constrained by biological limitations, including sequence toxicity, length restrictions, slow cloning cycles and contamination risks. These challenges continue to create bottlenecks for the production of high-quality DNA used in drug discovery, development and manufacturing.

By advancing MiroSynth toward a fully cell-free manufacturing process, Ribbon Bio aims to eliminate many of these biological constraints at their source.

Cell-free workflows simplify many of the practical challenges associated with bacterial cloning while producing cleaner DNA that is free from endotoxins, host-cell DNA and antibiotic resistance markers. This improves consistency, streamlines downstream processing and supports increasing quality requirements for clinical-stage and commercial manufacturing.

The technology enables the production of increasingly complex DNA molecules required for next-generation genetic medicines and advanced synthetic biology applications.

In addition, improved traceability, clearer manufacturing provenance and fewer contamination risks support evolving regulatory expectations as synthetic DNA moves closer to GMP-aligned applications.

Bringing Cell-Free DNA Production into the Laboratory

Building on its cell-free manufacturing platform, Ribbon Bio is introducing the MiroMine kit, allowing researchers to generate high-fidelity DNA constructs in-house using the same cell-free principles that underpin the company’s technology.

The kit is designed to provide research teams with greater flexibility and independence when working with complex DNA constructs. By enabling rapid, on-demand DNA production directly at the laboratory bench, MiroMine reduces friction in iterative design cycles and shortens the time between concept and experimentation.

For teams working with highly complex or sensitive sequences, internal DNA production also offers greater control and confidentiality. More broadly, the technology lowers barriers to advanced DNA synthesis and expands access beyond centralized manufacturing facilities.

Expanding Access to Complex DNA

Commenting on the launch, Ribbon Bio Chief Executive Officer Jodi Barrientos described the announcement as a significant milestone in the company’s development.

“Today marks a pivotal moment for Ribbon Bio as we evolve from a service provider and become a true enabler by making DNA design and assembly more accessible. By combining our MiroSynth DNA and proprietary assembly algorithms with our new MiroMine kits, we are expanding access to complex DNA and putting greater control directly into the hands of scientists.”

According to Barrientos, advances in human, animal and planetary health are increasingly limited by access to DNA. Cell-free technologies such as MiroSynth are intended to remove this bottleneck and accelerate innovation across biotechnology and healthcare.

Beta Program for MiroMine

The MiroMine kit is initially being introduced through a beta testing program. Interested customers can contact Ribbon Bio to request participation and gain early access to the technology.
