BIO-Europe Spring was held for the first time in Vienna from March 25 to 27, 2019 with LISAvienna acting as the host sponsor. The conference is considered to be the largest springtime European partnering conference for the biotech and pharma industries. Vienna took center stage for the entire sector for three days.
About 2,570 delegates from almost 1,500 biotech and pharma companies, service providers and investors convened at Messe Wien Exhibition and Congress Center to negotiate future licensing deals, financing rounds and contracts. As a consequence, the conference managed to exceed all expectations. It not only provided a top-level platform for regional companies and research institutions, but also allowed Austria to position our comprehensive support opportunities for start-ups and scale-ups internationally.
Eighty organizations from Austria participated in BIO-Europe Spring, including 60 Vienna-based companies and research institutes. Most were represented at the joint LISA – Life Science Austria booth organized by LISAvienna on behalf of aws. The booth design picked up on some stereotypes often associated internationally with Austria (a chandelier, a red carpet with a floral print, top-class coffee and Mozart balls) and integrated them into a modern and open booth structure. The numerous positive comments we received stated that Austria will be remembered for its appealing mixture of tradition and innovation. The booth, which was centrally located within the exhibition area, certainly attracted a lot of people (3,400 cups of coffee were consumed over the three days…) and stimulated numerous one-on-one discussions with conference guests.
We are grateful to all our partners for their extraordinary commitment toward the conference, especially the entire EBD Group team and the Vienna Business Agency. Thanks to ABA – Invest in Austria, aws, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs, the City of Vienna and, last but not least, all the Austrian companies and research institutes participating in the conference, BIO-Europe Spring 2019 in Vienna has been declared the most successful event in its 13-year history.
